Tree felling, tree cutting and tree removal

We can fell and remove trees with no damage to the surrounding area. For all those trees in tricky areas such as hanging over a road or in-between two houses we can safely remove them with little disturbance. All arisings can be removed off site for recycling.

Crown reductions

The size of a tree can be reduced while maintaining the shape of a natural shape of a tree. All pruning is carried out the highest standard incorporating Alex Shigos CODIT theory. Trees that are out of shape can be pruned into a better shape, limbs can be reduced away from the side of a house or off a road for example. Crown reductions can be done for amenity reasons or safety reasons to prevent a tree from failing or wind throw.

Crown Thinning

Crown thinning is where some of the branches from within the crown are removed. This can be to allow more light into a shady back garden or to remove untidy branches. It can also be used to reduce the sale area of a tree to reduce the chances of it failing.

Crown Raising

This is when the lower limbs of a tree are removed. This could be for aesthetic reasons or to allow more light into an area or possibly because you want to be able to get under the tree with a lawnmower.

Pollarding

Pollarding is a fairly old technique originating from timber production. This should be avoided bus sometimes is the only possibility; for example on previously pollarded trees or where large amounts of the tree have to be removed and there is no other option. This is common on willow trees near streams and rivers.

Dead Wooding

This is where the dead wood from a tree is removed. This is generally done for safty reasons but is also done for amenity purposes. On some old trees where it is safe to do so the dead wood should be left due to its habitat value.

Hedge and Conifer Reductions

This involves reducing the height of a hedge by a specific measurement or percentage. Large conifers can be topped where a hedge has been allowed to grow too high.

Hedge Cutting

Hedge Reductions

Hedges that are too tall or too big can be reduced in size to suit any requirements. This may be to allow more light into a kitchen window or simply to improve a view.

Hedge Cutting and Trimming

We carry out all hedge cutting and hedge trimming operations from small garden hedges to large farmland-style hedges with a flail. Hedge cutting is an annual operation and ought to be carried out after August to prevent disturbances to birds nesting. Cutting hedges later in the year also means you will only need your hedges cut once a year.

Stump removal

Stump removal reduces the risk of any diseases and pathogens being retained in the area that might have been living on the tree and prevents diseases occupying the stump after the tree has been removed, for instance Honey Fungus. Tree stump removal has the advantage of removing an unsightly tree stump or a stump which is getting in the way. Stump grinding also guarantees the stump will not re shoot.

Our stump grinder the "Carlton SP 7015 TRX" pictured above has a very powerful 60hp engine enabling this machine to grind out many stumps in a short amount of time with ease. This stump grinder has a width of 35 inches so access is not usually a problem. This stump removal machine runs on tracks allowing it to reach the most awkward stumps over rough terrain. As this machine runs on tracks it has a low ground pressure reducing impact on sensitive areas. Turning is not a problem as far as making a mess in concerned as we simply drive it onto a board to change direction. We normaly grind stumps out to a depth of 12 inches but a depth of 15 inches can be reached whilst a height of 24 inches can be met.

Our stump grinder is easily transported on a trailer allowing us to service the whole of the Midlands.

When the stump has been ground out the area can ether be landscaped to fit in to its surrounding area, i.e. turfed over or paved,or simply left as it is, out of harms way. First For Trees Limited can carry out landscaping in these situations.

The stumps can either be ground out or dug out depending on each situation. Access is never a problem and any stump can be removed. First For Trees Limited uses high quality stump grinder equipment, capable of efficiently dealing with any stump, however large or small.
